DSM (Dutch State Mines) is providing technical support to XAP using Dyneema, the world's strongest fiber. XAP will use Dyneema cordage for the vital connection between the hot air balloon re-entry vehicle and the cluster of gas balloon tetroons that carry us to the mesosphere.Dyneema will give us a great advantage over any other connection possible because of its great strength to weight ratio. It also has strong ultra violet light degradation resistance, which is very important above the atmosphere.
Remarkably, commercially available Dyneema cordage will be ideal for our needs. We use the same braided cord for suspension on our Seven Star Balloons, Inc. sport gas balloon. See: www.PleiadesBalloon.com and www.N6US.com .
